What effects can be expected during the MOSAYC hearing test?

To use the MOSAYC sound personalization feature, you can enter your age to create a good default profile based on statistical data gathered from lots of other users. Alternatively, you can also take a hearing test to create a very personalized sound profile and ensure top MOSAYC performance. Two things need to be taken into account here.
1. When the volume is turned up very high for the ear being tested, the other ear will intentionally be fed a masking noise signal, which will help to improve the quality of the results. This will in particular be the case if the hearing test is carried out in an environment which is too loud or you are unsure of the controls. Always follow the instructions in the MIY app at the start of the hearing test!
These are, in particular, the following:
  • Make sure you are in a quiet environment,
  • Switch off ANC,
  • Set the volume of the playback device to 50%,
  • Hold down the button for as long as you can hear an audio signal.
2. You may notice audible distortion in both ears when there is no user input during the hearing test. The hearing test then provides an increasingly high output level which eventually distorts. In this case, you should start the hearing test again from the beginning and take the information provided in point 1 into consideration.

How does the built-in automatic mute function work?

The LAGOON ANC headphones boast a smart built-in feature, which pauses media playback when they are removed and thus saves energy. So, when you remove the headphones, media playback is paused, and when you put the headphones back on, media playback starts again. If the LAGOON ANC headphones are switched off unintentionally, for example if you lean forwards quite far whilst wearing them, you can start playback again manually as usual by double tapping the touch-sensitive interface.
From firmware version 1.0.18 on, you can switch this automatic function on or off in the MIY app (from version 2.2).

Is it possible to purchase a CUSTOM One Pro Plus already customized?

No, unfortunately this is not possible, as the headphones are supplied fully assembled. However, as a customer, you can assemble additionally acquired accessories yourself. Assembly can be completed quickly and easily using the Allen key provided.

Are velours ear cushions that fit the Custom One Pro Plus also available?

Yes. The velour ear cushions EDT 770 VB and EDT 770 V models are also suitable for use with the CUSTOM One Pro Plus.

Do I need phantom power for the Headset Gear?

No. The Custom Headset Gear requires a so called T-powering as described in the data sheet. Using the Headset Gear with phantom power will cause it to be destroyed immediately.

MICROPHONES

Does the sound of the microphones change?

As a company, it is important to us that the known and beloved acoustic properties of the M Series microphones stay unchanged – that is why the microphone transducers and other sound-absorbing parts will be produced in the same way they have always been. Only the basket of the M 88 is an exception. As requested by many of our customers, the microphone grille will be available again in its original three-layered and fine-meshed form with the facelift.

Why are the products no longer named "TG" at the end? Does this affect the construction?

Eliminating the suffix ”TG“ for the M 88 and the M 201 is a way to clearly separate our M and TG product lines and move back to a consistent naming. Nothing has changed in terms of the robust construction of the microphones. The TG Series are touring gear and made for live performances. While ideal for studio use, the M Series microphones are still suitable for use in demanding live situations.

Does the facelift serve to replace manual labor with machines?

No. We still manufacture in filigree handwork in Germany. What has changed are simply production processes to facilitate the work of our qualified personnel. In addition, we have replaced some glue connections with screw connections to provide better serviceability.

Do personal assistants such as siri or google assistant work?

Yes, by pressing and holding the "Y" key on the device for approximately two seconds, you can access the default personal assistant on your smartphone or tablet. (Please note that this assumes the function hasn't been previously disabled on the smartphone or tablet.)

Which kind of fast-charging function does beyerdynamic SPACE MAX include?

beyerdynamic SPACE MAX includes a fast-charging function like the Power Delivery Standard. This standard can be used by using a power adapter that supports the Power Delivery Standard.

What is the difference between TG V50 and TG V70?

Both microphones belong to different categories in the TG-series: the cardioid polar pattern of TG V50 has a larger frontal area, where it picks up sound from. You don´t need to use it exactly on axis, even two or three vocalists can use it at the same time. Via the larger area, it also picks up more stage wash.
The hypercardioid pattern of TG V70 is narrower in front of the mic, it has to be spoken or sang to exactly from the front but picks up less leakage from other instruments on stage.

Can i connect my headworn-, lapel- or instrument microphone with 4pin mini-XLR plug directly to phantom power??

No, this does not work and can damage the microphone! For this application, a phantom power converter is mandatory!
Electret condenser microphone capsules (like in lapel- or headworn microphones) need some kind of a T-powering, a 1.5 - 9V DC supply via an unbalanced connection. This kind of powering is delivered for example by wireless beltpack transmitters or these "phantom power converters" (they convert phantom power into T-powering). For our electret mics with "Opus" pinout (and TA4F connector), this is CV 18, for mics with "TG" pin assignment, it is the MA-PVA.
In contrast to T-powering, phantom power is a 48V DC supply (+/- 4V) via a balanced connection. These two ways of powering are NOT compatible with each other!

Where can I get a calibration file for my MM 1 microphone?

We can provide you with a table of the final measurements for current MM1 microphones. You can request the measurement data using this form. For this we need the serial number on the MM1 microphone: MM1 Register. This measurement is done in free field condition in an anechoic chamber, measuring distance 1m, on axis.
Depending on the format in which your data system requires the data, the data from this table may need to be sorted and saved as a .txt file.

What is the difference between Phonum and beyerdynamic SPACE?

For many users all over the world Phonum was a popular and reliable solution for meetings, both in companies and at home. At the same time, it was beyerdynamic’s first speakerphone.
With beyerdynamic SPACE, we are reacting to the increasing fusion of work and leisure and are thus offering a speakerphone that can also be used for private purposes, whether for telephone calls or listening to music in the best quality.
While the design of Phonum was very functional, beyerdynamic SPACE has been designed to blend into office and home environments. Furthermore, beyerdynamic SPACE is available in three different colours: Charcoal, Aquamarine and Nordic Grey.
Regarding the sound, Phonum and beyerdynamic SPACE could hardly be more different. While the sound of Phonum was focused on speech, beyerdynamic SPACE offers a Music and a Voice Mode, which are activated automatically depending on the situation. When using the Music Mode, the sound of the loudspeaker is very dynamic with a pleasant bass response, while the sound of the Voice Mode is focused on speech.
When it comes to recording speech, due to its innovative 360° SMART MIC TECHNOLOGY beyerdynamic SPACE provides maximum freedom of movement with professional or private phone calls or meetings with a maximum of six participants.
Due to the beamforming technology and state-of-the-art signal processing, the microphone system with four microphones automatically recognises if the incoming signal is a voice or interfering noise and eliminates unwanted reverberation, echoes or feedback. The implemented echo cancellation sets new standards.
Other useful features such as Google Fast Pair ensure quick pairing with a smartphone.
The Kensington Lock is a standardised anti-theft protection, which is particularly beneficial when using the device in small meeting rooms in office buildings.
Due to the antibacterial textile, beyerdynamic SPACE is also a hygienic option for private as well as professional environments.

What does the True Wireless functionality mean and how is it implemented?

If you set two beyerdynamic SPACE into the true wireless mode, they will play music in stereo. This is explicitly a stereo and not a double mono playback. The first device that is set into the true wireless mode is the left speaker and the second speakerphone is the right speaker. The True Wireless function is only possible for music playback and cannot be used for telephone calls or conferences.

Which modes are reset to factory settings after switching off the device? Which modes remain?

All changed settings remain when the unit is switched off and on again. Only the Stealth Mode is automatically switched off each time the unit is started.

Can I make phone calls with the FOX connected via USB adapter to Iphone?

With the USB adapter, you can use the FOX as a microphone for any output device. Please check the functionality of your smart device (phone).
Can FOX be used on the PlayStation and Xbox?

FOX supports consoles and similar devices with USB standard.
When using an Xbox, please note that the FOX microphone is not compatible with the USB ports. Xbox can only be used with Xbox certified products.

Why is the microphone signal low?

FOX is designed to also record loud singers, instruments or very close speech. With higher microphone sensitivity it’s more likely that distortions will occur. In case your signal is too low, you can always increase the volume in your recording software. This doesn’t impact the signal Quality.

Connect the M 70 PRO X correctly: Audio interface instead of PC sound card

The M70 Pro X should not be connected to a PC or laptop via a 3.5 mm microphone input. The microphone requires a powerful audio interface or mixing console with an XLR microphone input. A 3.5 mm jack cable with XLR connection, which is connected to the internal sound card of a PC or laptop, is not sufficient for operating the microphone. A powerful audio interface or mixing console is required to properly amplify the level of the microphone. The M70 Pro X is connected to the audio interface via an XLR-to-XLR connection cable. It is recommended to obtain further information from a qualified dealer.

What is the difference between a dynamic kick drum mic such as the TG D70 and a boundary kickdrum mic such as the TG D71?

The main differences are sound reproduction and handling.
A dynamic kick drum mic has a more natural and warm sound and is normally designed to be mounted on a stand, which allows it to be used also with various other instruments besides kickdrums.
A boundary kick drum mic uses an electret condenser capsule, giving it a more aggressive, kick-pronounced, sound.  Due to its very flat form factor that is designed to lie on the floor it is very easy in use for kickdrums (as it just is placed inside without using a stand) but makes it less flexible for use with other instruments.

What is the difference between the new TG D70 and the former MkI Version?

Both are very similar in sound and performance as they use the same capsule. In contrast to the MKI version the new TG D70 doesn’t have an EQ selector any more to avoid incorrect pre-filtering. In addition, the design has been significantly modernized.

Can the TG D70 be used with other instruments than kick drum?

Of course it can. Although it is designed for kick drum use, the pre-filtering is not as heavy as within some competitors‘ products. Therefore, the TG D70 will work well with many other, bass-intensive instruments. Just give it a try. If it sounds good, it IS good.

What is the difference between the TG I51 and the former TG D50 and TG I50?

They are very similar in sound and performance as they use the same capsule. In contrast to the TG D50, the new TG I51 does not have a selector for a pre-filtered kick drum EQ curve – it is constantly configured for a “Linear Mode”.  In addition, the design has been significantly modernized.

Does the TG I51 need 48V Phantom Power or can it be damaged by Phantom Power?

No and No. The TG I51 doesn’t need Phantom Power and also cannot be damaged by it if accidentally applied.

My TG I51 is moving to loosely on the integrated mic clamp or is very hard to move on the integrated clamp.

The force to move the TG I51 on the integrated mic clamp is adjustable to personal taste. Just tighten or loosen the integrated screw on the knee of the integrated mic clamp.

I already have a instrument mic. Why should I buy another one?

You also bought a second pair of shoes although you already had one.
Mics are an important part of your sound. Different mics give different sounds for different styles and allow you to pick the perfect match for different occasions.

What´s the successor for SHM 2xx and 8xx gooseneck microphones?

Both series, SHM 200 and SHM 800 were replaced by the current Classis GM 3xx series.
Apart from the design, we improved their resistance against interference from mobile phones by implementing the Scudio™ technology.
Please find the details on their website.

What changes have been made to the M 88 over the years?

Besides the name, surprisingly little has changed! When it was launched in 1962, it was completely matt silver chrome-plated, had a DIN output plug and was called "BEYER M 88N".
Its shaft was then black chrome plated, there were subsequently versions with Tuchel and XLR plugs ("BEYER DYNAMIC-", later "beyerdynamic M 88N(T)" (Tuchel) and "M 88N(C)"("Cannon", the inventor of the XLR plug)).
The first TG microphone series was introduced to the market at the end of the 1980s. As part of this, the previous multi-layer, fine-meshed basket was replaced by a mechanically more stable, coarse-meshed black basket with foam pop filter – the "M 88 TG" was born. It was offered alongside the previous "M 88N(C)" for a few years; the DIN and Tuchel versions were discontinued.
At the turn of the millennium, there was an "M 88 Classic" variant that was limited to 1,000 units and which from a technical perspective was practically identical to the "M 88 TG". However, it was matt silver chrome-plated and had a modified plug sleeve that no longer projected out over the microphone shaft.
Mechanically, this is the current incarnation of the "M 88 TG" but is currently coated black.

Are Revox M 3500 and beyerdynamic M 201 N(C) identical?

No, they are not identical - but very similar! We have build the "M 3500" exclusively for Revox, based on the regular M 201N(C). There were some differences: "M 3500" had five vents behind the capsule, the former M 201N(C) had six (the current M 201TG again has five). "M 3500" had a 600 ohms voicecoil while M 201N(C) uses a 200 ohms coil together with a passive filter which tames the presence area of the response. Therefore, the "M 3500" sounded a bit more "forward", more "in your face" than the slightly darker and flatter M 201N(C) (and the current M 201TG).
We do not have any spareparts for "M 3500" left in stock, but in most cases, we can offer according M 201N(C) / TG parts!

Differences between the beyerdynamic M 201 N, M 201 N (C) and the current M 201 TG

In principle, these are one and the same microphone. They differ in terms of age and connection plug: the original version from the 1960s was the M 201 N("N" for "low impedance", which had to be mentioned at that time) with a 3-pole DIN plug. Shortly afterwards there was a variant called the M 201 N (C), with "(C)" standing for "Cannon" (the inventor of the XLR plug). Each of these versions could be converted into the other, which is why the respective plug was in a screw socket, which protruded a little from the microphone shaft at the back.
Over time, the DIN variant was discontinued and the so-called "Tour Group" microphone series was introduced in the 1980s. The microphone was integrated into this series as the M 201 TG.
In the meantime, the XLR plug also ends flush with the microphone shaft. Apart from that, we have been building the M 201 largely unchanged technically for many years.

WIRELESS MICROPHONES

What is the legal situation in Germany?

The use of radio microphones in Germany is generally subject to authorisation. The authority with responsibility for this is the German Federal Network Agency in Bonn with its regional offices (www.bnetza.de).
For some smaller frequency ranges, the agency provides what are known as "general allocations" within which each user can use his/her microphone without having to register (provided the required technical prerequisites are met):
A) 36.61 – 38.125 MHz, limited until 31/12/2015 (Decree 68/2005)
B) 790 - 814 MHz and 838 – 862 MHz, limited until 31/12/2015 (Decree 91/2005)
C) 823 – 832 MHz (so-called "medium band"), limited until 31/12/2021 (Decree 23/2011)
D) 863 – 865 MHz, limited until 31/12/2023 (Decree 47/2013)
E) 1785 – 1805 MHz, limited until 31/12/2021 (Decree 10/2011)
F) 2400 – 2483.5 MHz, limited until 31/12/2024 (Decree 30/2014)
The "B)" range, which to date has frequently been used for radio microphones, is currently being greatly disrupted by LTE ("Long term evolution", broadband wireless Internet access). Radio applications on frequencies that are close together influence one another, regardless of their purpose.
In particular, the top area of the "medium band", range "C)", is very close to the uplink of LTE terminal devices (such as LTE-enabled mobile phones), which means that there is also quite a high risk of interference to radio microphones within this range.
Many other radio applications also operate within the "D)" range, e.g. wireless baby monitors, which can also cause interference to radio microphones.
The"E)" range is within a frequency range allocated for wireless data services such as LTE and problems can also occur here.
In Europe, the "F)" range is currently often used for WLANs and, also here, there can be adverse effects for the operation of radio microphones.
In the ranges 174 – 230 MHz (for stationary application) as well as 470 – 608 MHz and 614 – 790 MHz (stationary and mobile applications), the German Federal Network Agency allocates frequencies individually upon application. This allocation is subject to a charge (currently approx. € 130 per allocation (for 10 years), plus € 10 per transmitter per annum. Some institutions may be exempted from the fees; more information on this can be obtained from the German Federal Network Agency).

How can I tell whether or not there is interference on a TG 500 channel?

If there is an active TG 500 transmitter on the channel/frequency, please turn it off. If, despite the transmitter being turned off, an RF level is displayed for antenna A or B, that means that there is interference on the frequency currently being used. For a more accurate display, open the "RF Meter" function in the receiver menu. The RF level of both channels is displayed in high resolution.

What can I do if the TG 500 System is not outputting an audio signal?
  • Ensure that all TG 500 components are switched on.
  • Check whether there is a connection between the transmitter and the receiver.
  • If the red sync LED is illuminated, please check the settings and re-synchronise the transmitter.
  • Check whether the RF and audio levels are displayed on the receiver’s display.
  • Ensure that the cables used are not defective.
  • Check whether the "TX Mute" function is activated ("M" is displayed on the receiver display).
The synchronisation of transmitters and receivers is not working.

  • Ensure that the transmitter is switched on.
  • Keep the transmitter parallel in front of the infrared diode on the receiver.
  • Ensure that the infrared diode on the transmitter is not covered over.
  • Check the battery level. The sync process may be adversely affected if this is too low.
Why is an RF level displayed on the receiver even though no transmitter is switched on?

There may be interference from other wireless systems in the vicinity or also due to DVB-T. In this case, select an interference-free frequency (e.g. using a search or saved group/channel setups).

What can I do if the TG 1000 system is not outputting an audio signal?

  • Ensure that all TG 1000 components are switched on.
How do I correct the displayed order of the receivers in the Chameleon software?

Ensure that you assign each device its own separate "device ID". If you don’t do this, an error message is displayed in the Chameleon software. To obtain a better overview, assign the numbers from top to bottom according to the order of your devices in the rack (the top receiver is then number 1).
Why is the old Chameleon software still displayed after an update?

It can happen that when there is repeated access via the network, the website of the Chameleon software is loaded from the browser cache. To force the website to reload completely, you should generally clear the browser cache after upgrading the firmware of the receiver. The procedure for doing this differs depending on your browser:
Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Tools --> Internet options --> Browsing history --> Delete
Mozilla Firefox Version 20:
Options --> Advanced Network --> Cached Web Content --> Clear Now
Google Chrome Version 26:
Customise and control Google Chrome (top right corner next to the address bar) --> Clear --> browsing data
Safari up to Version 6:
Safari --> settings --> Empty Cache
Safari Version 6:
Safari settings --> Go to ADVANCED --> Set the check mark for "Show Develop menu in menu bar" -->  Select Develop in the menu --> Empty Caches
Opera Version 10:
Tools menu  --> Delete Private Data

PRODUCT HYGIENE AND CLEANING

How do I clean the beyerdynamic DT 1 single-ear headphones?

In order to clean the DT 1 we recommend the use of conventional screen and/or plastic cleaners which are easy to use and biodegradable. To ensure that the surfaces are free of viruses during the Covid-19 pandemic, a disinfectant agent or alcohol should be used. Avoid strong rubbing on the imprint. Make sure that no liquid or moisture can penetrate through the sound openings into the headphone. Never use solvent-containing or aggressive cleaning agents.

What other possibilities (according to the current state of research) do I have to keep devices free from viruses?

Irradiation with UV light: This is a good way to keep devices free from viruses. Necessary precautions should be taken for your own safety. The prerequisite for this is to own or purchase an appropriate UV device.
Thermal cleaning:  We do not recommend this method of killing viruses by temperature. Low temperatures over a long period of time have no guaranteed effect, high temperatures over a shorter period of time can cause damage to the electronics and membrane.
Quarantine: A used item can be simply locked away for about 7 days (according to current standards), within this period of time the viruses should be completely dead. The currently required quarantine time recommended by the Robert Koch Institute should be observed.

What do I have to consider when cleaning conference microphone units?

With smooth surfaces it is recommended to clean them with cloths containing alcohol (disinfecting effect) after use. We advise against using a spray to clean the surfaces with a disinfectant agent or alcohol, to prevent moisture from penetrating into the product.
When cleaning the microphone units, the operating buttons need special attention. Depending on the selected cleaning agent and the intensity of cleaning, please note that premature ageing of the surface or operating buttons may occur in the long run (liability by beyerdynamic is excluded).
When operating the microphone units or their operating buttons, we recommend in times like these and especially when the microphone units are shared with other people, not to operate the buttons directly with the fingers but with a blunt object (e.g. rounded end of a pen). In addition, each speaker should use an individual microphone unit or at least it should be thoroughly cleaned before it is passed on to someone else, and the pop or wind shield should be replaced.

What do I have to consider if I want to pull a plastic bag or foil over a microphone?

Many reports are currently being broadcasted on TV where reporters have wrapped their microphones in plastic bags or foils. In this case, the main aim is to minimise the possible risk of infection between the people involved and to provide the best possible protection for everyone.
Although we are not virologists and can only give recommendations, it can be clearly stated that the use of plastic bags or foils can reduce the risk of infection. Saliva is emitted when speaking and gets on the microphone grille or pop/wind shield of reporters or interview partners.
Therefore, in addition to pop or wind shields, a plastic bag or foil can be used for protection, but at the same time it can affect the sound quality. When using plastic bags or foils, it is important to make sure that they are carefully cleaned or thoroughly wiped with a disinfectant agent after each speaker, or at best replaced. When changing the plastic bag or foil it is of course absolutely necessary to follow the known hygienic rules and recommendations. In any case, a mouth and nose protection and disposable gloves should be worn. The recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute should also be followed.
The selected plastic bag or foil should not be too thick and should be pulled loosely over the microphone. A standard household rubbish bag can be used for example. However, if the foil is too loose, unwanted noises can occur during live reporting in windy weather conditions. It is therefore important to make sure that the foil is firmly placed during recording and cannot be moved. To minimise the risk of infection, we recommend that you keep the microphone underneath the plastic bag or foil.
How can I clean the microphone shaft?

Painted smooth surfaces can generally be cleaned with soapy water. To ensure that the surfaces are free of viruses during the Covid-19 pandemic, a disinfectant agent or alcohol should be used. It is important to make sure that no liquids penetrate to the inside. If you use a new cleaning agent, test it on a small (non-visible) area first.

How can I clean the integrated pop shield?

If the integrated pop shield is made of gauze (metal mesh, e.g. with the V96), it is quite easy to clean. Simply immerse the removable gauze basket completely in soapy water or disinfectant liquid. Make sure that it is completely dry before you reinsert it.
If the integrated pop shield is made of foam material, it can be cleaned with soapy water, just like the wind shield. When it is completely dry, the pop shield can be carefully reinserted.
